Designed for both experienced blacksmiths and those looking to expand their tooling, this master set provides a wide range of working-end profiles for punching holes, cutting and splitting hot steel, creating decorative textures, forming grooves, and shaping metal. From functional forging to ornamental ironwork, these tools offer the versatility needed for a variety of projects.
Each tool is individually hand-forged from 5/8" diameter O1 tool steel, with working ends shaped and finished for their intended applications. Tool Care & Recommendations
Made from O1 tool steel for durability and toughness during traditional blacksmithing applications. Most working ends are intentionally left unhardened for ease of maintenance, while chisels and the center punch feature hardened working ends.
- Intended Use: Designed primarily for steel heated to forging temperature. Chisels may be used for light scoring and layout work on cold mild steel. Do not use these tools for heavy cutting or punching of cold or hardened steel.
- Temperature Control: Avoid prolonged contact with hot material. If overheated, allow tools to cool until no visible red heat remains before cooling in oil. Never quench red-hot tools in oil or water.
- Proper Support: Use a pritchel plate or suitable punching block when punching through stock. Use appropriate backing surfaces when cutting to protect working edges and anvil faces.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Regularly inspect for cracks, chips, or mushrooming. Dress working and struck ends as necessary, avoiding excessive heat when grinding. Discontinue use if cracks are present.
- Safe Striking: Use an appropriate, non-hardened striking hammer and avoid excessive or repeated blows without checking the tool.
Refer to our Tool Care & Safety Guide for additional maintenance instructions and safe-use recommendations.
