Blacksmith Eye Punch
Blacksmith Eye Punch
The Water Oak Forge Blacksmith Decorative Eye Punch is a hand-forged tool designed for creating realistic and stylized eye-shaped impressions in hot steel. Ideal for traditional blacksmithing, ornamental ironwork, and decorative metalworking, these specialty punches make it easy to add character, detail, and personality to hand-forged projects.
Featuring a variety of shaped working ends, these punches create distinctive eye patterns with controlled hammer strikes. Perfect for adding eyes to forged animal heads, dragons, snakes, and other decorative creations, they are particularly useful for blacksmiths making ornamental hooks, bottle openers, sculptures, and other artistic metalwork.
Available in multiple styles, each punch produces a unique eye-shaped impression, allowing blacksmiths to experiment with different patterns and designs.

Tool Care & Recommendations
Made from normalized O1 tool steel for durability and toughness during hot-working applications. Working ends are intentionally left unhardened for ease of maintenance.
- Hot Work Only: Use on steel heated to forging temperature. Never use on cold or hardened steel.
- Temperature Control: Avoid prolonged contact with hot material. If overheated, allow the tool to cool until no visible red heat remains before cooling in oil. Never quench a red-hot tool in oil or water.
- Proper Use: Position the working end against heated steel and use controlled hammer strikes to create the desired eye-shaped impression. Reheat material as necessary for clean, consistent patterns.
- Inspection & Maintenance: Regularly inspect for cracks, chips, or mushrooming. Dress tool ends as necessary and discontinue use if cracks are present.
- Safe Striking: Use an appropriate, non-hardened striking hammer and avoid excessive or repeated blows without checking the tool.
Refer to our Tool Care & Safety Guide for additional maintenance instructions and safe-use recommendations.
